Audience Building: You’re Going to Get Sick of Hearing Yourself. Sorry.

After an early morning session with a client, mapping out about 60 emails over 6 funnels to help create audience connections, I started to realize where people go wrong with marketing and thus, miss out on building a really great audience ready to buy from you. Ever be in a…

Chronic Undercharging: The Plague Killing Business Owners

Hi, do you or a business owner you love, suffer from a case of undercharging? I’m Marissa Loewen. I’m not a doctor in real life and I don’t play one on TV, but I am here to help. From Etsy Sellers stuffing your boxed purchase with freebies and fancy tissue…

Creative Pirates — The “Manufactured” Outrage Against AI Art

If you find yourself suddenly shocked or outraged about the robots stealing art so people can make brightly coloured selfies that have body parts growing out of their head — I should tell you about cultural appropriation, genocide, PETA lobbying Etsy to throttle Indigenous economies using seal fur, and then…

How We Use Mindful Exclusion to Create More Inclusivity

I run a growing paid community for business owners that is more than just your average show-up-and-share community. It runs primarily on a virtual meeting platform called GoBrunch and has a combination of 3D workrooms and then experiential rooms that are more about creating a whole body experience of being…

The Decision to Not Perform

Let’s start with a big secret. I’m a Gen Xer on TikTok. Creating content on TikTok. Content that isn’t dancing, pointing or particularly trendy. I have been entertained by TikTok for the past 3–4 years as the Panini shut down most of my regular contact with the outside world, slowing…

A New Model For Supporting Business Owners

With stats swirling in my head this week about 90% of startups fail and 54% of business owners never create a budget for their business and even the fact that the US alone has over 29M self-declared entrepreneurs or business owners, I keep thinking how we can turn these stats…

Why We Ended Monthly Payment Plans For our Small Business Community

We are passionate about Nourishing the Risktakers We built Create the Rules Business Accelerator around the simple idea of Nourishing the Risktakers. How can we move from a society where we don’t appreciate the incredible risk, hardship and commitment that goes into building a business to one where we invest in the change makers and culture creators…

Being Seen Even in Rejection

My first cancellation from Create the Rules Business Accelerator came a month in. I opened up the reply the person had given as to why they were cancelling. “I didn’t know it would be so intensely logical.” An immediate smile crept across my face because I had never been described…

Write for No Small Parts

No Small Parts is a teeny tiny story library for creative expression. The challenge — to write a complete story in just a few lines or a paragraph. Can you get to the heart of the story, create an impact or change the trajectory of someone’s life in a few lines? I believe you can. If you want to be a writer for this publication, send me mail at hello@createtherules.com with a teeny tiny proposal of what you want to share here.

Falling Easily

In High School, our Drama class decided to do a whole 120 min performance on the various types of abuse — physical, emotional, verbal, familial, sexual — we really covered it all in a composite of skits created by the students. No one questioned why the students chose the topics they wrote about and performed or why they knew such topics intimately at 15 & 16 years old. But as a result, we learned how to fall to the ground when theatrically slapped or punched. You tuck your leg, on the side you’re falling down on, behind your other leg and fall on the meaty part of your thigh and the back of your upper arm so you don’t break anything.
